St. Dominic Days | Solemn Mass and Procession

  • Church of St. Vincent Ferrer 869 Lexington Avenue New York, New York, 10065 United States (map)

Our Holy Father Dominic, the founder of the Order of Preachers, died on August 6, 1221. To mark the 804th Anniversary, the Parish will have several days’ worth of special celebrations.

Saturday, August 8, is the Solemnity of St. Dominic according to the modern liturgical calendar. We will have a Solemn Mass and Procession at 12 NOON at St. Vincent’s for which the Schola will sing Missa Salve Regina and Salve Regina á 8 by Tomás Luis de Victoria; and Gloriose confessor Domini – Et ideo cum Christo by Francisco Guerrero.

The guest preacher will be Fr. Ignatius Pio Mariae Doherty, a Franciscan Friar of the Renewal. By ancient tradition, a Franciscan is invited to preach at a Dominican church on St. Dominic’s Day and vice versa.

A Parish Picnic will follow the Mass in Central Park. All are invited.
