The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a program for adults who were not raised Catholic or for Catholic individuals who have not yet received the sacrament of confirmation. Beginning on September 20, 2017, our parish RCIA program will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:45 pm – 7:45 pm at St. Vincent Ferrer. The goal of the program is threefold:
- to convey the breadth and depth of the Catholic faith through instruction in the Church’s doctrines and practices, using the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church as our starting point;
- to prepare for the reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation in the Easter Season;
- to create a sense of belonging and participation in our local parish community.
I would like to encourage you to consider speaking to family or friends who live near our parish who may be interested to share with them this opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith. I would like to especially encourage non-Catholic spouses of parishioners to consider taking part in the program. It is possible to come to the first several meetings on a trial basis; no commitments will be made until several months into the program, when the “Rite of Acceptance” allows an individual to signal his or her decision to formally enter the RCIA program. All are welcome!
